Public Sector members win new Agreement

United Voice members in the public sector have had a huge win in their new and improved Enterprise Agreement.

United Voice members in the public sector have had a huge win in their new and improved Enterprise Agreement.

Negotiations began in March 2017.

United Voice members knew what they wanted: Jobs They Can Count On.

That meant job security, a fair pay increase, and no new outsourcing or privatisation of services.

Job security is a major concern for many members in the public sector. With the cost of living going up, members wanted jobs they could count on – jobs that were secure and paid a fair wage.

So members launched the Jobs You Can Count On campaign for a fair new Enterprise Agreement.

They took action.

They wore stickers, performed work bans, and even walked off the job.

Members stuck together and stayed strong on their key issues throughout a long campaign.

Their unity paid off: by November 2017, United Voice members had won all of their key claims.

In January 2018, United Voice members returned an overwhelming 98% YES vote in favour of the the new Agreement.

It was approved by the Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia on Wednesday, 24 January, 2018.

Some examples of what members won:

  • A commitment to no further outsourcing or privatisation of public health services
  • 3% wage increase
  • A new step-by-step process to deal with vacancies and staffing shortages
  • Improved permanent conversion
  • Income and injury protection
  • Wages parity for existing outsourced and labour hire employees
  • Improvements to redundancy provisions
  • Significantly improved Delegate and Union rights
