Last year, the Adelaide Casino carried out a significant restructure of the Table Games department.
This effectively made the positions of Supervisor, Pit Manager, and Shift Manager redundant. New roles were created, with the titles Area Manager and Casino Manager.
Members were very concerned about the possible introduction of individual salaried contracts eroding conditions for Casino workers.
Fortunately, United Voice members had established strong consultation provisions in their Enterprise Agreement.
This required the Casino to engage with members and their union.
United Voice Officials assisted members with ensuring their voices were heard throughout the process, and advised members on their entitlements and options.
Area Managers stayed strong throughout this process by building and maintaining 95% union density in their group.
This strength led to a huge win in the form of a new Collective Agreement for Area Managers. Instead of being put on individual salaried contracts, Area Managers now have a new Agreement which protects many key conditions of employment.
Overall through Casino members’ strength and unity, they were able to achieve:
- No forced redundancies
- Ongoing consultation
- Improved salaries and a new Collective Agreement for Area Managers
- Improved salaries for Casino Managers
"Because of our strong membership and our willingness to stick together, we've been able to achieve a fantastic outcome", United Voice Delegate, Kirstie.
